Drawings are the foundation on which my paintings and prints are built. I keep a notebook nearby at all times in which I record ideas, draw in situ, and make textual, pigment, compositional, and other aesthetic decisions regarding observed objects in the field, as well as artworks in the studio. My Field Guide Drawings subsequently help develop paintings and prints, if not become the artwork itself.
